What does a home buyer energy audit entail?
Evaluation and analysis:
Exterior grade analysis (drainage)
Water infiltration (basements, roofs, soffits, etc.)
Structural Inspection (sills, floor joists, framing problems)
Thermal barrier (insulation) analysis w/infrared scan (type, quantity and quality actaul R-value)
Air barrier testing and diagnostics w/blower door. (Total leakage area, air exchanges per hour under natural conditions, ie. how many times per hour all the conditioned air in the home is replaced by outside air)
Indoor air quality (mold,water vapor,ventilation)
Mechanical ventilation (sizing/necessity)
Window condition and treatments
Heating system testing and diagnostics:
Heating ductwork evaluation (leaks/insulation/balanced installation)
Appliance efficiency survey
Combustible gas detection (gas leaks)
Carbon monoxide testing (Boiler/furnce/gas range/ambient)
Combustion safety testing (backdraft possibilities)
Combustion efficiency analysis (boiler/furnace)
and, other services upon request
The service includes a 11-14 page Whole House Report summarizing the
evaluation and analysis in plain language, and detailing the testing data.
Prioritized retrofits are provided in a materials and methods instructional
approach, allowing any experienced homeowner or building contractor to use
the report as a manual. An image CD is provided containing all digital
photos and infrared images.

We also provide a second level of service--Building Modeling. Using building
modeling software (TREAT), I model your existing building pre- and post-
energy-efficient retrofit. This process requires an estimate of the
retrofit actions, and produces the payback time for the retrofits,
savings-to-investment ratio (cashflow after payback), number of btu's saved,
fuel quantities required to heat, cool or electrify the retrofitted building.
$250 = Home Performance building modeling
